Ingredients

2 cups flour

2 tbsp sugar

½ tsp salt

½ tsp baking soda

1½ tsp baking powder

3 tbsp butter

¾ cup raisins (soak raisins in water for 30 minutes and drain)

2 tsp caraway seeds (optional)

1 cup buttermilk

1 egg, slightly beaten

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 400-degrees. Grease an 8-inch round pan.

Step 2

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, baking soda, and baking powder.

Step 3

Cut in the butter to the flour mix until crumbling. Mix in raisins and caraway seeds (if using).

Step 4

In a separate bowl, mix the egg and buttermilk. Stir this into the buttery flour mix until well blended.

Step 5

Turn onto a floured surface. Sprinkle lightly with flour and form into a round shape.

Step 6

Place dough into the pan and pat lightly to fit it into the pan.

Step 7

Cut a cross ½ inch deep. Add to the oven and bake at 400-degrees for 30 minutes.
