Ingredients
1 cup sugar
¾ cup Crisco/shortening
1 egg
4 tbsp molasses
2 tbsp baking soda
2 cups flour
½ tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ginger
~½ granulated sugar (for topping)
Preparation
Step 1
Cream shortening, sugar, and eggs together in a large mixing bowl. Add the baking soda to the molasses, mix, and then add to the egg mixture.
Step 2
Sift together the flour, salt, and spices. Refrigerate for 1 hour.
Step 3
Roll cooled mixture into small balls (~1 tbsp) and dip into the granulated sugar.
Step 4
Add balls to a sheet pan and bake for 12 minutes in an oven preheated to 350-degrees.
